- MLB The Show 21 has launched on Xbox Game Pass

Both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions of MLB The Show 21 has launched on the subscription service on April 20th, and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will also have access to the game on Android phones and tablets via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

This marks not only the debut of the series on non-PlayStation platforms, but also the first time Sony has published a game on Xbox. It’s mighty strange that MLB The Show 21 would arrive on Game Pass rather than Sony’s own PlayStation Plus. Perhaps it’ll show up there as well at some point, but this is still a highly unusual deal.

It was surprising enough to learn that the formerly PlayStation-exclusive baseball sim would launch on Microsoft’s consoles — making this the first “simulation-quality game” to launch on Xbox since Major League Baseball 2K13.

PlayStation has already mentioned that more games will be coming to other platforms and this increased quarterly profit gives fans an idea as to why. This sales success on other platforms will likely solidify PlayStation's expansion onto PC and Xbox. Some fans on Twitter are still hoping for an MLB The Show 21 release on the Nintendo Switch, but others are hoping for more titles on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

There’s plenty of room to speculate as to how Xbox managed to not only get the game on its platforms, but add it to Game Pass, too. Murmurs are that Major League Baseball took a strong position to getting the long-running baseball sim—which is a great marketing tool for a league that’s lost viewers over the years—on more than one platform.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $14.99 a month and includes Xbox Live Gold, which lets players access online multiplayer.

There are a bunch of new features in “The Show 21,” including the aforementioned ability to use your created Road to the Show character in additional modes. You can also follow in the footsteps of Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani and follow a path as a two-way player, building your career as both a pitcher and a fielder/hitter. Aside from that, the two biggest additions are likely the new pitching control mechanic, called Pinpoint Pitching, and the stadium creator, which is only available on the next-gen versions of the game. Simply put, I could take or leave both of them.
